Should the unexpected happen, our contents insurance will get you back on your feet quickly, with the minimum of disruption.

Benefits

Our contents insurance gives you:

  • Up to 25% off your home insurance. Introductory discount of up to 25% off your home insurance when you take out buildings and contents cover together under a combined policy. Minimum premiums apply,
  • No Claim Discount. No Claim Discount will be applied to your premium dependant upon your claims history. Most customers will receive a 30% discount in their first year, based on new customer data during March 2013.
  • Up to 20% lower prices online. if you take out buildings, contents or combined cover online at www.co-operativeinsurance.co.uk – most of our customers receive a 15% discount.
  • Up to £50,000 legal expenses cover (in association with Co-operative Legal Services Limited) included as standard.
  • An automatic increase in your contents sum insured around religious events or festivals and family weddings, civil ceremonies or birthdays.
  • Claims are settled on a 'new for old' basis (except clothing and household linen).
  • Four levels of high risk items limits are available to ensure that you have adequate cover for your TVs, personal computers and valuables.
  • A choice in the amount you pay towards each claim, with four levels of excess available. The higher the excess you choose the cheaper your premium.
  • Cover can be extended to include most types of accidental damage for that extra peace of mind.
  • Optional personal possessions insurance – because keeping things safe away from the home is just as important, you can extend your policy to cover your personal possessions when you're out and about.

Individual minimum premiums apply to buildings cover and to contents cover. This means the maximum discounts may not be available in all circumstances.

Home legal expenses cover is managed on our behalf by Co-operative Legal Services Limited and is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under registration number 567391.

Eligibility

We cannot offer you an online quote if the property:

  • is not mainly roofed with slates or tiles
  • is not your main residence, e.g. it is a holiday home or rented out to tenants or it is used by paying guests
  • has ever been entered by flood waters
  • has more than 5 bedrooms or is higher than 3 storeys
  • your contents, including your personal possessions are worth more than £100,000
  • is used for business purposes other than office work, childminding or private tuition
  • is a mobile home.

However we may still be able to provide you with a quote over the phone by calling our quote line direct.

In addition, we cannot offer you an online quote if:

  • You or anyone living with you have ever been convicted of any criminal offence (other than motoring offences) or has any prosecutions pending
  • you or anyone living with you has been refused insurance or had special conditions imposed
  • you or any of the proposers are under 16 years of age
  • you are not resident in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
