As an ethical company, animal welfare truly matters to us and our members. The Co-operative Insurance is part of The Co-operative Group, whose businesses have for many years championed and led the way in animal welfare.

Since 2005 The Co-operative Bank has declined finance worth an estimated £4.9m in income from businesses that did not meet its animal welfare ethical policy. The Co-operative Insurance will also not invest in any business that fails to meet these standards.

  • Animal testing - ‘We will not finance any organisation involved in animal testing of cosmetic or household product or their ingredients’.
  • Great Apes - ‘We will not finance any organisation involved in the exploitation of great apes e.g. in experimentation or general commercial use’.
  • Intensive farming - ‘We will not finance any organisation involved in intensive farming methods, e.g. caged production’.
  • Blood sports - ‘We will not finance any organisation involved in blood sports, which involve the use of animals or birds to catch, fight or kill each other’.
  • The fur trade - ‘We will not finance any organisation involved in the fur trade’.
